Why every bet has the same edge
The payouts are priced as if the wheel had 36 pockets: a bet covering n numbers pays (36 - n) / n to 1. But the wheel has 37 pockets, because of the zero. So every standard bet returns, on average, 36 in 37 points per point staked: the house keeps exactly 1 in 37, which is 2.70 percent, on every bet on the table.
Work one example. Red covers 18 of 37 pockets, so it wins with probability 18/37 and pays 1 to 1: the expected return is 18/37 times 2, which is 36/37. A straight up bet covers 1 pocket, wins with probability 1/37, and pays 35 to 1: the expected return is 1/37 times 36, again 36/37. Different feelings, identical price.
This is also why no arrangement of bets can beat the wheel: any combination of bets is priced at the same 36/37, so the combination is too. The betting systems we simulated confirm it across more than a million sessions.
What the edge costs in practice

Common questions
What is the payout for a single number in roulette?
A straight up bet pays 35 to 1: a winning 10 point bet returns 360 points, 350 of profit plus the stake. Its true odds are 1 in 37 on a single zero wheel, which is why the bet keeps a 2.70 percent edge for the house despite the big payout.
Which roulette bet has the best odds?
On a single zero wheel every standard bet has exactly the same house edge, 1 in 37 of everything staked. Even money bets win most often and pay least; a straight up bet wins rarely and pays most. The frequency changes, the edge does not.
Do the called bets have different odds?
No. The announced bets (voisins du zero, tiers du cylindre, orphelins) are fixed combinations of the standard bets above, so on a single zero wheel they carry the same edge as their parts. The glossary explains each one.
