Does the James Bond roulette strategy work? 100,000 sessions tested

The James Bond strategy covers most of the table with a fixed spread every round. We simulated 100,000 single zero roulette sessions to show how often it wins and what it really costs.

What it is and how it works

The James Bond is a fixed spread rather than a progression. Every round you place the same three bets: a large stake on 19 to 36, a smaller stake on the six line covering 13 to 18, and one unit on zero as insurance.

That covers 25 of the 37 pockets, so most spins return something. The twelve numbers from 1 to 12 are the hole, and they are what the system pays for.

A simple example at a base bet of 5

  1. At a base unit of 5, each round stakes 70 on 19 to 36, 25 on the six line 13 to 18, and 5 on zero.
  2. That is 100 points staked every single round, whatever happened before.
  3. A number from 19 to 36 returns 140. A number from 13 to 18 returns 150. Zero returns 180.
  4. Any number from 1 to 12 returns nothing, and the whole 100 is lost.

What our simulation shows

We ran 100,000 sessions of this system against a fair single zero wheel, each session lasting up to 100 spins, starting with 500 virtual points and a base bet of 5. Those are the same defaults the app's Lab starts with. A session ends early if the bankroll can no longer cover the next required bet.

Read that table slowly. The share of sessions finishing ahead is often the number that sells a system, and on its own it is misleading: what matters is the average result, which includes the sessions that went badly.

Why this system cannot overcome the house edge

A single zero wheel has 37 pockets. An even money bet such as red wins on 18 of them and loses on 19, so every point you stake returns 36 of 37 points on average. That is a loss of 2.7027% of everything staked, and it applies to every single bet no matter what size it is or what order the bets come in.

Our simulation shows this directly. Across 100,000 sessions this system staked an average of 6,037.3 points per session. Applying the edge to that amount predicts a loss of 163.2 points. The simulation actually produced an average of -162.8 points.

The staking pattern changed how the wins and losses were spread out. It did not change the total. That is the whole story of every betting system: they move risk around, and nothing more.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • It covers 25 of 37 pockets, so a clear majority of spins return something.
  • The stake is fixed, so it never escalates during a bad run.

Weaknesses

  • It stakes 20 base units every round, so it puts far more at risk per spin than any of the progressions.
  • The 1 to 12 hole arrives often enough to erase a long series of small returns.
  • Because the total staked is so large, the house edge takes far more in absolute points.

Who it might suit

The James Bond spread suits players who like most spins to return something and who want a fixed, predictable stake. It is an expensive way to play, and it should be chosen for the feel of it rather than for the result.

Does the James Bond roulette strategy work?

It returns something on most spins, which makes it feel productive. Because it stakes 20 units a round, the house edge applies to a much larger amount, and in our simulation it produced the largest average loss of any system tested.

Why does covering most of the table not help?

Covering more numbers lowers the payout on each hit by exactly enough to keep the edge the same. You win more often and win less each time, and the wheel still keeps 1 point in every 37 staked.
